Ballet Pro Musica Festival is not a traditional ballet event. It is unique in America. It is the first and only ballet festival whose repertory is based entirely on a new 21st century art form: classically inspired choreography set to masterworks of chamber music performed live by virtuosi dancers and musicians from celebrated national and international companies.
“Chamber music ballet” is a new genre of ballet that blossoms once a year in New Mexico. Founded in 2006, the Festival invites only exceptional ballet companies and music ensembles that have performed together for years because it makes a difference. Ballet Pro Musica Festival is the resident ballet company of the National Hispanic Cultural Center, Albuquerque.
The 2014 Festival repertoire will feature ballet premieres set to the music of classical, contemporary and world music, including three performances and one dress rehearsal. Our intent is to present classically trained professionals performing great contemporary works as well as works inspired by contemporary Latino culture, and to promote understanding of chamber music ballet through performance and education.
